FAQs
What is a Naturopath?
A Naturopath is a practitioner who looks at the whole person, not just the symptoms.
Rather than focusing on a single diagnosis, we explore how your body systems are working together and what may be contributing to your symptoms, whether that’s stress, nutrition, hormones, gut health or lifestyle.
Naturopathy combines evidence-based nutrition, herbal medicine and lifestyle support to help the body return to balance.
Why would I see a Naturopath?
You might consider seeing a naturopath if you feel like something isn’t quite right, but you’ve been told everything is “normal”.
Many people live with symptoms that are common, but not normal. Things like period pain, headaches, digestive discomfort, fatigue, skin flare-ups or feeling constantly overwhelmed are often brushed off or managed short term, rather than properly understood.
Naturopathy takes a different approach.
Instead of accepting these symptoms as something you just have to live with, we ask why they’re happening. We look at how your body systems are working together, and what may be contributing, whether that’s stress, nutrition, hormones, gut health or environmental factors.
You don’t need to wait until something is “serious” to seek support.
If you’re feeling dismissed, stuck, or like you’ve tried everything without real answers, this is where naturopathy can help. The goal is not just to manage symptoms, but to understand what’s driving them and support your body back towards balance.
What are Rachel's Qualifications?
Rachel has almost completed her Bachelor in Health Science (Naturopathy), with only 6 months of clinical experience remaining.
Rachel is also a Certified Paediatric Microbiome Clinician, supporting her understanding of common childhood conditions. Find out more about this additional training and how Rachel could support your child here.
Additionally, Rachel has a Bachelor in Engineering (Civil) and Diploma in Civil Engineering.
What can I expect from a Naturopath Consultation?
During your 90-minute consultation we will spend around 40 minutes discussing your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and health goals. This allows me to gain a thorough understanding of the factors that may be influencing your wellbeing.
Following this discussion, I will develop a personalised treatment plan approved by the supervisor, a qualified naturopath. This process takes approximately 15-20 minutes where you will have time to relax in our reception area or leave the video call. We then present the treatment plan to you, ensuring you are happy with it and corresponding prescriptions. The treatment plan is typically sent to you via email within 24 hours of your appointment.
Your treatment plan may include nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, as well as herbal medicines or nutraceuticals where appropriate. If these are recommended, they can be prescribed during the consultation and taken home at your discretion.
The goal of the consultation is to create a practical, individualised plan that supports your health in a way that feels achievable and sustainable for you.
For more complex or long-standing conditions, treatment plans often evolve over multiple appointments. While we aim to begin supporting your main concerns from the very first consultation, the deeper refinement of your treatment plan may occur during follow-up appointments once we have had time to review your case thoroughly, assess how your body has responded, and identify underlying patterns or contributing factors.
We also try not to overload patients with too many changes at once. Instead, recommendations are introduced in a practical and manageable way to help create sustainable progress and allow us to better understand what is working best for your body.
What conditions can naturopathy support?
Naturopathy can support a wide range of health concerns, including:
- chronic conditions such as thyroid diseases and endometriosis
- digestive issues such as IBS, IBD and sensitivities
- hormones concerns including perimenopause, PMS and PMDD
- skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea
- fatigue, stress, anxiety and mild depression
- immune health and children's health
- Sleep issues including insomnia
- fertility (male and female)
- prenatal and postnatal support
- overwhelm, ADHD
- general wellbeing
Many of these conditions overlap and are often interconnected. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we explore the underlying drivers, including environmental, physical and mental factors. From there, we identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and gently support the body back towards balance.

How long is a student naturopath consultation?
Your initial consultation usually runs for approximately 90 minutes in total. This includes the consultation itself, treatment planning time, and reviewing your plan with you. We recommend allowing for 2 hours in total.
Who will be in the room during my consultation?
You will meet with your student naturopath, and there will also be another student present. Your case is later reviewed with a supervising qualified naturopath who may pop in during the consultation. This ensures your care is thorough and well supported.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. All information discussed in your consultation is confidential and handled professionally, just like in a private clinic.
What should I bring to my appointment?
If possible, please bring:
- recent pathology results
- specialist or GP letters
- current supplement list
- medication list
These help us better understand your current health.
How often will I need follow-up appointments?
Follow-ups are usually recommended within 2 to 6 weeks, depending on your condition and treatment plan.
Follow up appointments are only 60 minutes long.
Who can I contact to ask a question?
Please email Rachel at hello@botanicbalance.com.au or via our Contact Us page
